Information handled by the app
Nisala can hold the following information when you choose to use it:
- Meditation start and end times, practice type, and session markers.
- Your written or dictated experience notes and insights.
- Optional practice background and review context in your Practice Profile.
- Heart-rate and motion samples recorded during a Watch session, plus the body-state summary inferred from those samples.
- Practice reviews generated from your saved journal.
This information is stored in Nisala's local app storage. The Apple Watch companion sends completed sessions to the paired iPhone using Apple's Watch connectivity system.
Apple Health
With your permission, the Apple Watch app reads heart rate during a meditation session and writes a workout and mindful-minutes record to Apple Health. Nisala uses those readings only to describe how the body changed during that session.
They are cautious inferences from heart rate and motion, not a diagnosis, a measure of meditation depth, or proof of a mental state.
Health data is not used for advertising, sold, or shared with data brokers. You can review or revoke Nisala's Health permissions in Apple Health or Settings at any time.
Dictation
Dictation starts only when you tap Dictate and grant microphone and speech-recognition permission. Apple provides the speech-recognition service and may process speech according to your device settings and Apple's policies. Nisala saves the resulting text in your journal; it does not keep an audio recording.
Practice reviews and AI
On supported devices, Nisala uses Apple's on-device language model to generate a longitudinal practice review from your journal and optional Practice Profile. When that model is unavailable, Nisala creates a transparent statistical summary instead. The current app does not send your meditation record to Picmate, OpenAI, Anthropic, or another third-party AI provider.
Exports and sharing
You can export your complete practice record and choose where to send it using Apple's share sheet. That transfer happens only when you initiate it. The receiving app or service handles the exported copy under its own privacy terms.
Retention and deletion
Your journal remains on your devices until you delete sessions or remove the app. Deleting a session removes it from Nisala's active journal. Apple Health workout and mindful-minutes records created by Nisala may remain in Apple Health until you remove them there.
The current release does not provide a Picmate cloud account or server backup. Export important history before erasing or replacing a device, and contact support before deleting the app if you are trying to recover local data.
Children, security, and changes
Nisala is intended for adults and serious meditation practitioners and is not directed to children under 13. We use Apple platform protections and minimize data handling by keeping the journal local, but no storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
If a future version adds accounts, cloud sync, or cloud-based AI, this policy and the App Store privacy disclosure will be updated before those features are introduced.
